Anyone know how easy it is to live in an RV (especially in the Santa Cruz area) for cheap or free (roadside?). Any pointers would be great, dos an don'ts etc, specially concerning the law, an just general waste disposal issues etc. Feel free to message me.
Cheers Ben

Re: Free?Cheap Rv living
Mon, May 8, 2006 - 8:36 PMThis is spooky.
I'm also looking into RV or camper shell living in SC, and am also named ben.
what I was thinking of doing to answer the same question was hang out on westcliff drive and make friends with the folks parked there who seem to be living out of their autos, and ask them about the ropes. -

Re: Free?Cheap Rv living
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 1:37 PMWell, my name is not Ben but I am looking into RV living myself! I work as a contractor and we build residential, single family homes. Sometimes I can work on the same site for 8-12 months. While no-one is living in the house that we are building (or renovating), I've wondered why I don't just set up shop in an RV and move from project to project in it ...? -

Re: Free?Cheap Rv living
Tue, March 13, 2007 - 10:26 PMBen--- I've been looking around to buy an RV to travel and work, as well... I lived in Greenville, SC rather shortly and All of my stuff is in storage down there. I was thinking of going to Greenville, buying an RV and putting my stuff in it-- As I hate to outfit it with all NEW stuff... I've seen PLENTY of used RV's in the greenville area--some upwards of 34feet long and in good condition for under eight grand.
Good luck, amigo. Let me know if you want any leads on th cheap RV's....

There is some information on this thread you might find useful! What I usually do when I stay on one place for a while, is to find a "host" family, usually it is the place I'm working at, but it can also be friends who let me park in the driveway. As far as the waste issues go, I don't have any facilities in my truck, that's what the "host" family is for. On the road it is no big deal, public restrooms are everywhere, truck stops have showers. All campgrounds have dump stations for black/gray water if you go that route, and charges vary. Some parks or municipalities also have them, but they are rarely free. Here is a great site to get information from the real pro's on RV living, the great retired folks of this country! They are so full of tips on living on the road it will make your head spin! www.woodalls.com/cforum/in...s/forum/33
Cheers!

Re: Free?Cheap Rv living
Tue, March 27, 2007 - 12:55 AMI don't know anything about waste disposal..
But I lived in a van in Berkeley for a while. Berkeley and SC are pretty similar. You can park anywhere non-permit in a residential area and shouldn't have any problems unless someone reports your vehicle. Here, when that happens, you are given a notice that says you hae to leave within two days or so or you'll be towed.
My van was parked on the same block most of the time, with a bunch of other people living in their vehicles. You should try to find a place like that! It was amazing.
Just don't make it obvious that you sleep in it at night.
Have fun!
